Butte County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Alleged Assault in Oroville

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged assault involving at least three people in Oroville.

On the night of May 31, deputies responded to the 4600 block of Virginia Avenue to investigate a report of a family disturbance, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

At the home, deputies learned that a physical fight had broken out between at least three adults. One man reportedly sustained injuries and had to be hospitalized for treatment.

The man later left the hospital against medical advice, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies filed a report and began an investigation.

The next night, on June 1, the Sheriff’s Office and Cal-Fire received a report that an intoxicated man had collapsed on the same block of Virginia Avenue.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that the man is listed in critical condition.

Deputies reportedly believe that this man had been involved in the altercation on May 31 and possibly a second altercation on June 1.

Investigators are working to determine whether the man collapsed due to injuries from the altercation or an unrelated medical issue, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office has asked that anyone with information relevant to the case reach out to them at 530-538-7322.
