Folsom Police Apprehend Theft Suspect After High-Speed Pursuit

“On Sunday, June 9 at approximately 3 p.m., Folsom Police Department received a call regarding a theft from Safeway on Prairie City Road. The caller reported that they saw the suspect load a cart full of items and leave the store without paying for them. They estimated the value of the theft was over $1000. They provided a description of the suspect and stated that they saw them leave in a black Toyota headed towards US Highway 50. Additionally, the caller was able to provide our dispatchers with a license plate number.

A Folsom Police officer responded to westbound US Highway 50 and located a vehicle with the same license plate number being driven by a driver who matched the suspect’s description. The vehicle was travelling at high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic. Our officer pursued the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle exited the US Highway 50 at Zinfandel Drive and then continued to drive dangerously onto Olson Drive. The vehicle then turned into a parking lot on the 11000 Block of Olson Drive and yielded to the officer.

Eric Kephart, 30, of Elk Grove was arrested for grand theft and evading a police officer and booked at Sacramento County Jail. All items were returned to Safeway and the estimated value of the items was over $1280. We are grateful that this pursuit ended safely for all involved, including the community.”
