Two individuals were arrested in Siskiyou County last month for their suspected involvement in the transportation of over three kilos of suspected narcotics.
In a press release on June 3rd, the Sheriff’s Office announced that they had confiscated over two kilos of suspected cocaine and one kilo of suspected heroin during a traffic stop in Yreka.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a sergeant initiated the traffic stop on the afternoon of Friday, May 24, after a motorist allegedly drove past their posted location at high speed along Interstate 5.
The occupants of the vehicle were driving from southern California to Salem, Oregon.
Authorities conducted a search of the vehicle and reportedly discovered the suspected narcotics hidden in a Pringle’s box.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Miguel De Jesus Castro Diaz, and passenger, identified as 28-year-old Bianca Lopez Shivell, were both taken into custody for the alleged transportation of controlled substances.
The case will be forwarded to the Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office for review.
It is important to note that an arrest is not a formal charge, nor a conviction. Anyone arrested on suspicion of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
