Man Arrested in Sonora for Alleged Criminal Threats, Possession of Stolen Property
A man was arrested on various charges following allegations of criminal threats in Tuolumne County.
In a press release, the Sonora Police Department detailed an alleged incident that occurred on the afternoon of May 29th. Officers had responded to a report of someone making criminal threats on the 1100 block of Sanguinetti Road.
Authorities say that the suspect had threatened to shoot the victim, and that the alleged threat had stemmed from a previous interaction.
Officers conducted a search of the suspect’s vehicle with the assistance of a K-9 unit. Police say that this resulted in the discovery of “a controlled substance,” paraphernalia, and other items including a billy club, pepper spray, and a chainsaw.
Police conducted a records check on the suspect and discovered that he was on probation with a prior felony conviction, which legally prohibited him from possessing pepper spray.
Officers also discovered that the chainsaw had been reported stolen from a residence in May of 2023. The chainsaw was returned to its owner, police said.
Police identified the suspect as James Koenig Jr., 37.
Koenig was ultimately arrested on suspicion of criminal threats, possession of a billy club, possession of stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance, among other charges.
He was booked on $25,000 bail.
Although an arrest was made, it is important to note that an arrest is not a formal charge nor a conviction.
Any person arrested on suspicion of a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
