“District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that a San Luis Obispo County jury found John Patric Montgomery (DOB 04/18/1962) guilty of Possession For Sale of a Controlled Substance and Trespassing.

During the trial, the jury heard evidence that on March 6, 2024, San Luis Obispo Police Officers responded to a report that Montgomery was trespassing on private property despite receiving two previous citations in a month’s time for trespassing on the same property.

After Montgomery refused to leave, he was placed under arrest for trespassing. When police conducted a search, they found the defendant was in possession of 12 containers of methamphetamine, as well as methylsulfonylmethane, weighing 49.55 grams, four narcotics pipes, and $176 in cash.

Methylsulfonylmethane is used for coating containers holding methamphetamine to prevent the drug from sweating inside the container. It is also used as a cutting agent.

Montgomery is scheduled to be sentenced on July 10, 2024, in Department 9 of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court, the Honorable Crystal Seiler presiding.

The case was investigated by the San Luis Obispo Police Department and prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Julie Antos.
