SAN RAFAEL — A man remains in custody in lieu of $750,000 bond for attempted murder of his mother. The suspect identified as Wallenton DeLeon-Diaz, 26, of San Rafael, has three prior arrests on record for public intoxication.
DeLeon-Diaz was arrested again on June 25 at 1:07 a.m., outside an apartment building on Fairfax Street. He was booked at Marin County Jail for the following charges –
- Attempted murder
- Assault with a deadly weapon

- Mayhem
- Obstructing/resisting arrest
Family members witnessed an argument between the son and mother that escalated to violence. The stabbing victim was transported to a hospital for medical treatment, and she is expected to survive.
Officers arrived on the scene within two minutes after a family member called 911. They found DeLeon-Diaz standing in the middle of the street. San Rafael police said in a prepared statement. “DeLeon-Diaz was defiant and yelled at officers as they arrived. DeLeon-Diaz also indicated that he was still in possession of the knife he had used.”
As officers approached slowly, DeLeon-Diaz grabbed at his waistband, where he said he had a knife. He refused to follow verbal directions and commands, which led officers to fire a non-lethal munition to subdue him. DeLeon-Diaz fell to the ground. He was taken into custody without further incident.
