Traffic Stop in Winterhaven Leads to Multiple Felony Charges

“On 06/21/24 at around 6:00 pm, a Deputy assigned to the Winterhaven Division conducted a traffic stop for a driver not wearing seatbelt and speeding. A registration check of the vehicle showed the vehicle was suspended.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, a loaded and unregistered firearm was located.

The suspect was charged with multiple felonies to include: possession of a concealed and loaded firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm, and being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.

This stop is an example of how a simple infraction can quickly turn into multiple felonies. Imperial County Sheriff Deputies are committed to keeping our streets safe and holding people accountable for their actions.
