Suspected Haystack Arsonist Arrested

“On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at approximately 0600 hours, Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputies from South County Patrol responded to the area of East Cole Road and Bowker Road, near Calexico, to investigate a report of a past occurred arson of haystacks in the area. Initial responding Deputies obtained statements and evidence regarding this arson, which happened the night prior.

Imperial County Sheriff’s Agriculture Crimes Investigators responded to the scene and an investigation was immediately started into the circumstances surrounding the arson. Based on evidence located during the investigation, Robert Lee Law was identified as the suspect who set the haystacks ablaze. Law is a 47-year-old male transient from Phoenix, Arizona.

Law was subsequently located, arrested and booked into the Imperial County Jail for 451 P.C. – Arson, and 21310 (a) P.C. -Possession of a dirk or dagger. Bail was set at $35,000.00. This case has been forwarded to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. This remains an active investigation to determine if Law was involved in additional arson fires in the area.
