On June 27, 2024, at 3:51 PM, Thousand Oaks Patrol, East County Investigations, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and California Highway Patrol personnel worked in concert to pursue, subdue, and arrest five suspects involved in a daylight robbery at Macy’s Men’s and Home store at The Oaks Mall. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sr. Deputy Robert Curiel, “victims reported being battered,” with one man having his high-end watch stolen and a woman having her purse taken. Both victims were ultimately transported to a local area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The suspects, “described as four Black males and one Black female,” were located fleeing the area at a high rate of speed “in a green sedan” on southbound Highway 101. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated, leading to a pursuit.
During the chase, a handgun was discarded from the vehicle and recovered by deputies. The pursuit ended in a dead-end cul-de-sac in a residential neighborhood, whereupon four suspects fled on foot, while one remained in the vehicle.
With the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit, California Highway Patrol, and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the remaining suspects were apprehended in the immediate area and found to be in possession of stolen property linking them to the reported robberies. The discarded firearm was determined to be stolen.
The three juveniles were lodged at the Ventura County Juvenile Center on charges of felony robbery, conspiracy, elder abuse, and firearm offenses. The two adults, 18-year- old Corey Thomas and 18-year-old Jonathan Requejo, were booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on similar charges, “including felony evading and various firearm offenses.” Thomas and Requejo each had bail set at $100,000.
