On the evening of June 26, 2024, Ojai patrol deputies and detectives, along with Ventura County Major Crimes detectives, responded to the 800 block of El Roblar Drive in Meiners Oaks following a 911 Emergency Call for Service reporting an assault with a deadly weapon.
Upon arrival at the residence, deputies made contact with Ventura residents Omar Olmos, 18, and Antonio Gutierrez, 40 who “were subdued and arrested.”
The immediately ensuing investigation indicated that Olmos and Gutierrez had driven to the residence to confront a pair of 30- and 40-year-old adult males. According to VCSD spokesman Det. Joseph Sharif, evidence gathered at the scene indicated that “Olmos threatened to kill the older man and swung a machete at him.” During the altercation, the younger Ojai resident was battered by Gutierrez when he intervened to help his older friend. All four men sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene by medical personnel.
Olmos was taken to Ojai Valley Hospital for medical clearance and was then transported to the Ventura County Main Jail, where he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of a controlled substance. Gutierrez was also booked at the Ventura Main Jail on charges of battery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
