Anaheim Police Detail Officer-Involved Shootings During Pursuit of Hit-and-Run Suspect

Anaheim police have released details of two recent officer-involved shootings that occurred during the pursuit of a hit-and-run suspect.

According to a press release by the Anaheim Police Department, officer reportedly witnessed a hit-and-run collision shortly before 4 a.m. on Friday, July 5. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit.

During the chase, the suspect allegedly struck a patrol car and pointed a firearm at the officers.

The pursuit reportedly also involved two officer-involved shootings, police said. The first occurred in the parking lot of a McDonald’s at the 1100 block of N. State College Blvd. The chase continued, leading to a second shooting on State College Blvd. near the 91 freeway.

The pursuit reportedly concluded on the 2800 block of E. Virginia St. after an officer performed a PIT maneuver.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Milton Urquiza Cruz of San Pedro, was arrested without further incident. Cruz was not injured nor hit by gunfire.

A firearm was recovered from his vehicle, police said.

Cruz was booked into the Anaheim Police Department’s Detention Facility on suspicion of assault on a peace officer, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, felony evading, misdemeanor hit-and-run, and a felony arrest warrant.

No officers or community members were injured during the incident, police said.
