Man Arrested in Connection with Hit-and-Run, Unlawful Discharge of Firearm in Redwood City

Redwood City police recently arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run incident in which he is also accused of unlawfully discharging a firearm.

According to a press release by the Redwood City Police Department, offcers responded to a hit-and-run incident on the 100 block of Orchard Avenue just before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. A 911 caller had laso reported the suspect fleeing on foot.

Moments later, the caller indicated that bystanders were chasing the suspect. This pursuit escalated into a struggle, during which a gunshot was heard. The then fled the scene while allegedly brandishing a firearm, but left his vehicle behind.

A bystander involved in the struggle reportedly suffered minor burns from an ejected cartridge casing. No other injuries were reported.

Officers canvassed the area and recovered footage of the incident. Detectives identified the suspect as Brayan Lopez Ramirez, 19, and obtained an arrest warrant on several felony charges.

They also worked with neighboring police agencies that also had warrants for his arrest, police said.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on July 11, Redwood City detectives and neighboring law enforcement agencies conducted a surveillance operation, during which they took Lopez Ramirez into custody.

Authorities also served a search warrant at his East Palo Alto residence. Lopez Ramirez was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on multiple arrest warrants, police said.
