Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have reportedly arrested a father and son in connection with a recent homicide in Mendota.
Both individuals, sharing the name Javier Medina, have been booked into the Fresno County jail, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
The elder Medina, 61, reportedly faces a charge of accessory to murder and had an outstanding warrant for alleged child molestation. The younger Medina, 38, faces a charge of murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of an injured person near Shields and Fairfax Avenues, just outside of Mendota, on the morning of Friday, July 5.
Upon arrival, deputies were directed to a nearby cornfield, where they discovered the body of Antonio Torres Ochoa, 37, of Mendota.
Homicide detectives identified 38-year-old Javier Medina, also known as “Juju,” as the primary suspect.
After carrying out a search warrant at his home, detectives arrested Medina on suspicion of murder.
Detectives carried out a second search warrant at the elder Medina’s home, ultimately arrested him on suspicion of being an accessory to murder.
Detectives also determined that the victim and suspects were acquainted with each other, although they have yet to determine a possible motive, the Sheriff’s Office said.
