A Solano County man has been sentenced in connection with the 1980 cold case murder of Holly Ann Campiglia of New Jersey, according to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office.

In 1980, two field workers discovered a body in a cornfield in unincorporated Dixon. The victim was listed as “Jane Doe” for over ten years until, in 1992, the victim was identified as 21-year-old Holly Ann Campiglia from New Jersey.

Campiglia was reportedly identified through the National Missing Persons Unit.

Although the victim had been identified, the case remained unsolved for more than 40 years.

In late 2021, an evidence technician reviewed the case at the request of Campiglia’s family to determine if any original evidence could be resubmitted for additional DNA analysis.

The Serological Research Institute (SERI) reportedly discovered the presence of male DNA on the evidence.

When this DNA was submitted to another database by the San Mateo Crime Lab, it was matched to Herman Lee Hobbs, 76, who was reportedly already serving prison sentences for rape and murder.

Hobbs was reportedly already serving prison sentences for rape and murder at the time.

Detectives obtained a warrant to collect new DNA from Hobbs for a direct comparison, which confirmed the match.

On July 15, Hobbs was sentenced to 15 years to life for the murder of Holly Ann Campiglia.
