A woman was arrested for allegedly fatally striking a Vacaville police officer with her vehicle while under the influence.

In a press release, the Solano area California Highway Patrol announced that Officer Matthew Bowen had succumbed to injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop on the morning of Thursday, July 11.

Bowen, a motorcycle officer, had conducted the stop at the intersection of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive in Vacaville when he was struck from behind by another vehicle, the CHP said.

CHP officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of the crash. Bowen was given medical aid and transported to a nearby hospital, but was ultimately pronounced deceased.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Serena C.J. Rodriguez, 24, of Auburn, allegedly tried to flee but was detained by others at the scene, the CHP said.
