Juvenile Arrested for Alleged Felony Assault

A 17-year-old juvenile has reportedly been arrested in connection with an alleged assault in Petaluma.

On Friday, July 19, 2024, police received a report of an assault in the 60 block of East Washington Street. The reporting party, later identified as the victim, stated that they had been assaulted, police said in a press release.

The victim told police the suspect had left the scene following the incident.

Officers arrived at the location and spoke with the 18-year-old victim. They also reviewed video surveillance from a nearby business, which reportedly showed the suspect approaching the victim and punching him, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

The suspect allegedly continued to punch the victim while he was on the ground. The victim sustained several head injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene before taking himself to a nearby hospital.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony assault and transported to the Sonoma County Juvenile Detention Center in Santa Rosa.
