A burglary suspect was arrested in Ukiah after allegedly returning to the home they are accused of burglarizing.
In a press release, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies had responded on the morning of July 25 to a call of a burglary in progress on the 2800 block of South State Street.
Upon arrival, deputies reportedly found an open door and signs that someone had entered the home. Deputies and a K9 conducted a search, but no one was found inside.
The alleged intruder had left just before the deputies arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said.
As deputies began searching the area, they were informed that the suspect had returned to the residence. Deputies responded and apprehended an individual inside the residence.
A search of the suspect’s personal belongings revealed multiple pieces of jewelry belonging to the homeowner, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Sydney Shackman, 56.
Shackman was arrested for on suspicion of burglary and misdemeanor violation of probation. She was booked at the Mendocino County jail on $50,000 bond.
