Butte County authorities have announced the arrest of a Cohasset man for the alleged possession of child pornography.

According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office, they received information that a Cohasset man possessed a laptop computer that contained child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the computer and reportedly discovered over 600 images and “numerous” videos containing CSAM, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives reportedly confirmed that the laptop belonged to the suspect, whom they identified as 56-year-old Michael Markham.

On July 31, detectives served another search warrant at Markham’s home on Hollow Oak Drive.

On August 1, detectives located and arrested Markham in Red Bluff.

Markham was booked at the Butte County jail on child pornography charges, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
