A Shasta County man reportedly faces a variety of charges after authorities allegedly discovered narcotics on him during booking.

On the afternoon of Monday, July 29, a Shasta County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a motorist for an alleged vehicle code violation. During the stop, a K-9 deputy alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. The deputy searched the vehicle and confiscated paraphernalia, the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force said in a press release.

Authorities identified the driver as Ryan Lamar Montgomery, 52, of Cottonwood.

Montgomery was taken into custody and booked at the Shasta County jail for the alleged possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

At the jail, Montgomery reportedly admitted to hiding narcotics in his pants. Deputies searched him and located a half-ounce of methamphetamine and various prescription narcotics in separate packages, prompting suspicion that Montgomery was in possession of them for the purpose of sales.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery had been arrested on narcotics charges three separate times in January — on the 3rd, 5th, and 26th. On the 3rd, he was arrested following a search warrant at his home, during which authorities reportedly confiscated cannabis and firearms.

On the 5th and 26th, respectively, he was arrested again for the alleged possession of methamphetamine for sales. He was arrested on similar charges again on March 12, authorities said.

Because of his recurrent arrests under similar circumstances, the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force took over the investigation. They served a search warrant at his home on the 4000 block of Pleasant Court and reportedly seized a pound of methamphetamine, ammunition, rifle components, rifle and pistol cartridges, and other evidence allegedly indicating narcotics sales, according to authorities.

Montgomery remains in custody at the Shasta County jail and reportedly faces charges of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of sales, possession of ammunition components by a prohibited person, and maintaining a residence for the purpose of drug sales.
