Fresno police are calling on the public for help amid an ongoing investigation into a recent shooting that left one dead and another injured.
According to police, two people were shot in the area of East Woodward Avenue and Ninth Street on the night of Thursday, July 18. Officers responded to the area after the city’s Shot Spotter system alerted them to gunfire in the area.
While officers were en route, someone called 9-1-1 to report that there were two victims who had been shot.
At the scene, officers found Darius Lopez, 21, with gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body. A second individual, identified as a 19-year-old female, had also sustained gunshot wounds to her lower body, police said.
Both were taken to an area medical center for treatment. Lopez was pronounced deceased later that night.
The female victim was listed as being in stable condition, police said.
Homicide detectives reportedly believe that Lopez and the female victim were in a vehicle when an unknown individual approached on foot and shot at them. Detectives have been searching the area for witnesses and possible surveillance footage.
