“In less than 24 hours, a Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office patrol Sergeant uncovered over 535 grams of fentanyl, an unregistered firearm, and 5.5 grams of meth during two routine traffic stops along Interstate 5. Both drivers of the vehicles containing the illicit substances were arrested for the transportation of narcotics for sale, as well as possession of narcotics for sale, and booked in the Siskiyou County Jail.

According to the Department of Justice, an ounce of fentanyl has a street value of approximately $650-$2,000, and just 2 milligrams of fentanyl is considered a lethal dose. The 535 grams of fentanyl taken off the street by our Sheriff’s Sergeant therefore had the potential to kill roughly 267,500 people. In fact, from February 2023-2024, there were 69,979 reported deaths from synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and synthetic opioids remain the primary cause of all overdose deaths in the United States.”
