Mendocino County Authorities Investigate Shooting at Illegal Cannabis Farm; Suspect at Large

Authorities in Mendocino County are reportedly searching for a man wanted in connection with an alleged shooting at an illegal cannabis farm in the Willits area.

Detectives identified Miguel Rosas Camacho, 30, as the primary suspect

According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded late on the night of August 7 to the 26000 block of Redwood Creek Road after the dispatch center received several reports of a person having been shot.

At the scene, deputies reportedly found a 34-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a safe location near Highway 20 and, from there, taken to hospital via ambulance. The victim was later airlifted to an out-of-county trauma center, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies obtained information about the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle, as well as their last known direction of travel.

A short time later, a California Highway Patrol officer reportedly came across a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle, allegedly driving with its headlights off, in the area of Main Street and Sherwood Road in Willits.

The officer attempted an enforcement stop but the vehicle allegedly did not yield. The officer pursued the vehicle to the 24800 block of North Highway 101, where the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The driver, described at the time is simply as a Hispanic male adult, reportedly fled into the woods west of Highway 101.

Deputies discovered that the vehicle had he’d been driving was an Acura registered to someone from Madera.

White Ford Mustang believed to be associated with Camacho

Mendocino County sheriff’s deputies responded to the vehicle’s location and conducted a search, during which they reportedly discovered an assault weapon without a serial number and other evidence connecting the driver to the shooting.

The shooting was reportedly in such a remote location that one of the callers had to provide specific directions to deputies. The caller had accessed the area via Irmulco Road and relayed directions, and deputies arrived about 30 minutes after being dispatched.

Authorities reportedly discovered that the scene of the shooting was a large illegal cannabis operation. They discovered and eradicated over 1,000 growing cannabis plants. Authorities also confiscated second assault weapon with no serial number.

Meanwhile, after interviewing the shooting victim at the hospital, investigators identified the suspect as 30-year-old Miguel Rosas Camacho. Camacho and the victim are both from the Madera area had reportedly been staying together at the property, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Camacho is known to be involved in illegal cannabis and narcotics trafficking in an around Mendocino County and Round Valley, the Sheriff’s Office said. He is believed to be on the run and considered armed and dangerous. He is also believed to be driving a white Ford Mustang.
