Butte County Man Arrested for Allegedly Contacting Minor for Sexual Purposes
BUTTE COUNTY, CA – Authorities in Butte County recently arrested an individual for allegedly contacting a minor for sexual purposes.
In a press release, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office reported that they had begun an investigation on August 1 into allegations that an Oroville man had contacted a 14-year-old juvenile “for the purpose of committing sexual crimes.”
Deputies and detectives determined that this individual was required to register as a sex offender due to prior convictions in Oregon.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the individual as Eldon McElhaney, 72.
Authorities say that McElhaney failed to register as a sex offender when he relocated to California from Oregon, and that detectives located evidence that McElhaney had contacted the victim for sexual purposes.
On August 2, authorities arrested McElhaney at his Forestview Drive residence on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender in California and contacting a minor victim for the purpose of committing sexual crimes.
