San Jose Police Officer Reportedly Charged with Domestic Violence

A San Jose police officer has been brought up on multiple charges for the alleged ongoing domestic abuse of his now-pregnant partner.

In a press release, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office announced that Timothy Hackney, 31, of Morgan Hill, has been charged with firing his duty weapon inside his home, false imprisonment, and assault.

The press release described multiple incidents in which Hackney is accused of violence against his partner.

In one such incident, Hackney allegedly threw his partner into a bedroom, would not let her leave, forcibly covered her mouth sos he couldn’t scream, and slapped a phone out of her hand to prevent her from calling police.

In another, he allegedly fired his weapon at the ceiling. Police later found a hole in the roof “consistent with a gunshot,” officials said.

While the two were on a trip last year, Hackney allegedly slapped the victim’s phone out of her hand when she threatened to call the police. Although she managed to escape to a nearby restaurant and call the police from their phone, she hung up before speaking to police.

Nonetheless, there is a record of the call, officials said.

In yet another alleged incident over a year ago, Hackney allegedly fired a bullet through the ceiling. The victim then broke into the bedroom, at which point Hackney allegedly said, “I missed.” Police say the couple’s young child was in the home at the time.

Hackney has reportedly since been served with a gun violence restraining order and placed on administrative leave.

Hackney was arraigned in Morgan Hill on Tuesday, August 13, on felony and misdemeanor charges and later released “on conditions” by the judge, officials said.

“Domestic violence is a terrible, destructive crime and all perpetrators must be held accountable — badge or no badge,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen stated.
