Shooting Suspect Returning to Crime Scene is Arrested

MARIN CITY — Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives investigated and arrested a man believed responsible for a shooting incident in Marin City. A former resident of Marin City who was identified as the shooting suspect later returned to the scene of the crime.

The shooting happened during the early morning hours on August 4. The victim was outside with friends on the 200 block of Drake Avenue in Marin City when gunfire erupted. The victim was shot at close range in his back. The victim received medical treatment at a hospital for gunshot wounds and he is reportedly still recovering at home.

In a prepared statement the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. “A thorough and exhaustive investigation was conducted. Detectives developed probable cause to arrest Anthony Cozart, an 18-year-old man from Larkspur for the shooting.”

Detectives spent 10 days looking for Cozart. He lived in Marin City before he recently moved to Larkspur. Then on August 14 the suspect returned to the scene of the crime. A sheriff’s deputy observed him walking along the 200 block of Drake Avenue.

Cozart was subsequently arrested and booked at Marin County Jail for attempted murder. Cozart was held held in lieu of $500,000 bond, and he was later released from custody.
