Fairfield Police Refer Man for Mental Health Care After Incident at Local Business

Fairfield police recently responded to and diffused a situation involving a man suffering a mental health crisis, according to reports.

On the night of Aug. 24, a business located on the 1500 block of Gateway Boulevard contacted police regarding a man allegedly threatening employees with an axe.

The caller, an employee of the business, reported that the man appeared to be bleeding and was also in possession of a knife, the Fairfield Police Department said in a press release.

Upon arrival, police reportedly found the man near the store’s firearms counter, holding both the axe and the knife while standing near several employees.

Officers assessed the situation and issued verbal commands for the man to drop the weapons, to which he complied, allowing officers to take him into custody without incident.

Although the man displayed signs of intoxication, he also made statements that raised concerns for his mental health, police said.

Officers referred the man for a mental evaluation and appropriate assistance.
