The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek leads in connection with the 1997 cold case murder of Roy Dixon.

According to a press release, Dixon’s body was found next to a burning vehicle on the afternoon of Oct. 14, 1997, in the area of Winton Road in West Point.

Deputies had initially been dispatched to the area following reports of gunshots and, soon after, reports of a fire.

Deputies found Dixon’s body about four feet from the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The coroner’s office later discovered stab wounds on Dixon’s back, shoulder, lungs, and heart, and that the cause of death was “crushing injuries” to the head, neck, and chest.

The coroner also found that Dixon may have been run over with a vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

So far, despite many leads, investigators have yet to identify any persons of interest in connection with the murder.

The Sheriff’s Office has asked that anyone with information relevant to the case reach out to their anonymous tip line at 209-754-6030.
