Clovis Police Reportedly Arrest Shoplifting Suspects Who Had Toddler with Them

Clovis police recently arrested two shoplifting suspects who allegedly had a toddler with them while evading officers.

According to the Clovis Police Department, officers responded to a shoplifting in progress at a retail shopping center near Clovis and Herndon avenues on the morning of Sept. 3.

Dispatchers utilized the city’s camera network and descriptions provided by store employees to locate the suspects.

Officers located the suspects and pulled them over, but the suspects reportedly fled, leading to a brief pursuit. Police later terminated the pursuit near Bullard Avenue and Highway 168.

Shortly after, a Clovis resident reported suspicious activity involving adults matching the suspects’ descriptions near Bullard and Helm avenues.

With assistance from various Clovis Police divisions and Fresno Police’s Air 1 helicopter, both suspects were located and arrested without further incident.

Police identified the suspects as 24-year-old Aliza Vega-Estrada and 25-year-old Matthew Schwarz, both from Fresno.

Vega-Estrada was found with a handgun and allegedly had her toddler with her, police said.

Schwarz, reportedly a wanted gang member since 2019, was also taken into custody.

Both suspects were booked into Fresno County jail on suspicion of child endangerment, shoplifting, and conspiracy.

The three children were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services, police said.
