Two Arrested Amid Ongoing Theft Investigation in Humboldt County

Two individuals were arrested when Humboldt County authorities served a warrant in connection with an ongoing theft investigation.

On the evening of Thursday, Aug. 29, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to carry out an arrest warrant for Joshua Hoisington, 42, in connection with a theft and pursuit case from earlier that month. Deputies arrived at a residence on the 1400 block of Fay St. in Samoa at approximately 6:30 p.m. to make the arrest.

Hoisington was not at the address at the time, but authorities reportedly discovered a pistol, a revolver, a Ruger 10/22 rifle, approximately 1,000 rounds of ammunition, methamphetamine, a methamphetamine pipe, around 8 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and 2 grams of suspected fentanyl.

While deputies were on the scene, Hoisington’s partner, Deana Russell, was located nearby. Russell was ultimately taken into custody due to an outstanding felony warrant for probation violation.

Later that evening, Hoisington was located during a traffic stop and arrested without incident.

Both Hoisington and Russell were booked on suspicion of the possession of controlled substances while armed and being felons in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The case remains under investigation.
