DANVILLE — An intruder carrying a knife entered a couple’s residence during the predawn hours of
September 1. The intruder confronted a man who lives there, while his wife phoned police for help.
The intruder fled, but officers later arrested Clayton Mackay, 26, of Walnut Creek, as the suspect.
Mackay allegedly entered a home on Alexander Lane, shortly after 4:30 a.m., intending to steal
personal property. Arriving officers saw the suspect fleeing, running through a neighbor’s yard. Nearby
agencies and a K-9 unit were dispatched to assist Danville police.
The suspect was observed at 4:40 a.m. in the vicinity of Livery Shopping Center. He was seen in the
parking lot on San Ramon Boulevard. However, he temporarily evaded capture for hours.
A helicopter was dispatched by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. Meanwhile, multiple
residents reported seeing the fleeing suspect. In a prepared statement Danville police said. “Residents
reported several sightings of Mackay near Las Trampas Trail. It played a crucial role in apprehending
the suspect.”
A perimeter was established in the area to confine the suspect as law enforcement closed in. Danville
officers arrested Mackay with help from sheriff’s deputies. “Mackay was taken into custody on the 100
block of Camino Encanto at 1:49 p.m.” He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for
booking.
Mackay was in custody in lieu of $360,000 bond. There is currently no indication he is  incarcerated. Charges he faces include burglary, arson,
attempting auto theft, and threatening an officer.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Lt. Heather Transue at 925-314-
