Porterville Man Arrested for Attempted Homicide Following Early Morning Shooting

On August 30, 2024, at approximately 12:35 a.m., Porterville Police officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of North Westwood Street. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who confirmed that he was not injured during the incident. The victim reported that as he was pulling into his driveway, a Black male adult, later identified as 41-year-old Anthony Welch, drove by and discharged a firearm at his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Porterville Police detectives took over the investigation and subsequently located Welch’s vehicle in the 500 block of West Putnam Avenue. Welch was apprehended at the scene without incident. Detectives secured a search warrant for Welch’s vehicle and his residence on North Salisbury Street, which was endorsed by a Tulare County Superior Court Judge. During the search, detectives located evidence related to the shooting.

Welch was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office South County Detention Facility on charges of attempted homicide. He is being held without bail.
