Shasta County Police Standoff: Female Suspect Arrested

A Shasta County woman was recently taken into custody after allegedly threatening a neighbor with a knife and barricading herself against responding police.

According to a media release by the Redding Police Department, officers responded just after midnight on Wednesday, Sept. 4, to a report of a disturbance on Campers Court. An individual, reportedly identified as Brenda Ruscigno, 50, of Redding, was alleged to have caused a disturbance and brandished a large knife after being confronted by a neighbor.

Ruscigno allegedly chased the neighbor through the trailer park, threatened to kill him, and attempted to strike him with the knife before he escaped and called the police, according to authorities.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation as Ruscigno reportedly barricaded herself inside her trailer.

Despite repeated negotiation attempts, Ruscigno refused to surrender peacefully. After obtaining an arrest and search warrant, officers deployed a gas canister, which Ruscigno reportedly threw back at them.

Ruscigno later emerged from the trailer allegedly armed with a knife, and police ultimately deployed bean bag rounds and a police K9.

After being medically cleared, Ruscigno was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making terrorist threats, and resisting arrest.
