SAN RAMON — A man remains in custody in connection with a carjacking at a car wash in San
Ramon. Richard A. Weatherford Jr. 28, of San Lorenzo, was arrested on September 1 at 12:24 p.m.,
not long after the alleged crime occurred.
Weatherford was booked into the Martinez Detention Center. A judge set bond at $150,000 for release
from the county lockup. His case is under review. The suspected perpetrator faces multiple charges
for carjacking and robbery.
The victim was accosted at Ducky’s Express Car Wash, 2061 Camino Ramon, near Interstate 680. A
woman was approached while she was vacuuming her vehicle. She was pulled outside of her vehicle
by a man, who drove away with her vehicle. This happened on August 31 at approximately 9:30 p.m.
A neighboring law enforcement agency helped San Ramon police apprehend the suspect. Alameda
County Sheriff’s Office deputies observed the stolen vehicle a couple hours later. Deputies pursued
the vehicle, but temporarily lost sight of it.
Soon afterwards the vehicle was found abandoned. A search for the suspect was conducted and he
was found nearby. Weatherford was detained in an unincorporated area, near Crow Canyon Road,
between San Ramon and Castro Valley. San Ramon officers took custody and arrested him.
This marks the second time this year that Weatherford finds himself in trouble with the law. He was
arrested in January for criminal contempt/disobedience of a protective order.
