An Azusa man was arrested on evading and weapons charges following a pursuit late Wednesday night.
According to a press release by the Azusa Police Department, an officer initiated a vehicle pursuit on the night of Wednesday, Sept. 11, after observing a car speeding on the 200 block of North Cerritos Avenue. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle just after 11 p.m., but the driver failed to yield, leading to a chase on the 210 Freeway eastbound.
The driver eventually exited and briefly stopped at Grand Avenue.
Officers conducted a high-risk stop, but the driver allegedly refused to exit the vehicle and remained uncooperative.
Following a brief negotiation, the driver fled the scene a second time, setting off another pursuit. Officers maneuvered to immobilize the vehicle, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
During a search of the vehicle, authorities reportedly found a loaded handgun with an extended magazine in the glove compartment.
The suspect, identified as John West Spradley, 36, was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of an undetectable firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and obstruction.
