Man Arrested in Connection with Two Thefts at Same Business in Colma

Colma police recently arrested a man in connection with two alleged thefts at the same business.
According to a press release by the Colma Police Department, officers responded to a report of theft at a business in the 2500 block of Hillside Boulevard on September 8 at approximately 4:04 p.m.
On the afternoon of Sept. 8, officers responded to a report of a theft at a business on the 2500 block of Hillside Boulevard. According to authorities, a male suspect had entered the business’ property and stolen items from a shed.
The suspect was allegedly involved in a similar theft at the same business on the previous day, police said
The business owner told officers that after confronting the suspect, the man began throwing rocks at him. The owner was not injured.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot toward a nearby neighborhood, police said.
Officers conducted a search of the area, and an alert citizen reported seeing a suspicious male in the neighborhood.
As officers searched the area, an individual reported seeing a suspicious person. The individual was later found hiding behind a nearby church. When officers attempted to contact him, the individual fled, jumping over multiple fences into nearby backyards.
With the assistance of the South San Francisco Police Department, a perimeter was established, and the suspect was located in the backyard of a residence.
The individual was arrested without further incident. The business owner identified him as the individual responsible for the theft, in which approximately $3,200 worth of tools were stolen.
The suspect, whom police have identified as Hugo Pelaezmayen, 39, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, obstructing and resisting peace officers, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.
Pelaezmayen was booked at the San Mateo County jail.
