A man has died following an assault at a park in Clovis, and another man was arrested in connection with the assault.
According to a press release by the Clovis Police Department, officers responded on Aug. 27 to a report of an injured person at Bicentennial Park, located at Sunnyside and Sierra avenues.
Officers reportedly found an adult male unresponsive with injuries to his head and face. He was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities identified the victim as 52-year-old John Chandler.
Investigators believe that Chandler was assaulted by 29-year-old Adrian Mondragon during an altercation over $40.
Chandler was allegedly punched and then fell, sustaining critical injuries.
Mondragon was arrested on Aug. 29 and booked into Fresno County Jail on felony assault charges.
Detectives are coordinating with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office regarding additional charges following Chandler’s death, police said.
