An individual arrested after allegedly leading authorities on a pursuit was also connected to a recent grand theft case.

According to a press release by the California Highway Patrol, a patrol unit on the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 17, attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a silver Honda Civic for speeding and expired registration on southbound Interstate 5, south of Oasis Road.

The driver failed to yield and a pursuit began.

The vehicle exited at Lake Boulevard and continued at varying high speeds before returning to Pine Grove Avenue and re-entering I-5 southbound.

A CHP aerial unit monitored the vehicle from overhead, allowing ground units to discontinue their pursuit.

The driver reportedly abandoned the Honda and fled on foot down a steep ravine between Lake Boulevard and Lost Road. Upon reaching Lost Road, the driver was apprehended by Redding PD officers.

The individual was identified as a suspect in a recent retail grand theft incident at DICK’S Sporting Goods in Redding, authorities said.

At the time of their arrest, the suspect was reportedly wearing a pink Nike outfit with an anti-theft device attached.

The subject was booked into Shasta County jail on suspicion of felony evading, grand theft, and possession of illegal drugs.

The abandoned Honda was later towed, police said.
