Several thousand dollars was stolen from a small, retail store in Fillmore overnight.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Det. Dustin Heersche, detectives
attached to the VCSD Fillmore Patrol and the West County Special Enforcement Unit promptly
went to work and quickly identified Fillmore residents Jesus Hernandez, 38, and Kelly Cone, 44,
as the primary suspects. Both have “extensive criminal histories,” and Hernandez is a
documented member of a local street gang.

Further investigation “established probable cause: to arrest the two for felony second-degree burglary and conspiracy charges,” officials said.
Cone was first apprehended by a patrol deputy in the early hours of September 10 while
walking along a downtown Fillmore street. She was taken into custody “without incident” and
booked into the Ventura County Main Jail where she was charged with conspiracy and second-
degree commercial burglary.

Later that same day, detectives spotted Hernandez “loitering” in the company of several gang
members. As detectives “coordinated with patrol resources” to make contact with him,
Hernandez and others promptly fled into a nearby residence. Patrol units, assisted by the West
County Special Enforcement Unit and the Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit, surrounded the home.
After an hour of negotiations, Hernandez and several others surrendered without incident.
Hernandez was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was charged with resisting arrest,
obstructing a peace officer, felony commercial burglary, and conspiracy. Hernandez’s fellow
“loiterers” were also taken into custody for “various misdemeanors.”

Both Hernandez and Cone remain in custody at Ventura County Main Jail, with their bail set at
$50,000 each.
