SAN PABLO — A transient was arrested for setting fire to equipment worth about $100,000 belonging
to a youth baseball team. The 30-year-old suspect Ulices Sanchez has been roaming Contra Costa
County for almost two years.

Firefighters and San Pablo police responded to the fire at Davis Park on September 16 at 11:37 a.m.
Both arson and burglary were reported. While firefighters extinguished the blaze witnesses provided
police with a description of the arson/burglary suspect.

The fire happened on the 1600 block of Folsom Ave. at a storage container in the park. Everything
destroyed belonged to the San Pablo Baseball Association’s youth team. This includes balls, bats,
banners, helmets, uniforms, trophies, and other equipment that a Little League team uses.
Officers placed Sanchez under arrest a short distance away from the fire scene. A few, evidently,
stolen items not destroyed in the fire were found in Sanchez’s possession.

Apparently, the suspect stole items from the storage container, before he set it alight. The storage unit
sustained extensive damage and everything inside was destroyed.

As for Sanchez, he was booked at the Martinez Detention facility for multiple charges, including arson,
burglary and possession of stolen property. Sanchez has prior arrests in Contra Costa County for
assault, animal cruelty, grand theft, public intoxication, among other offenses. Prior to this he was
arrested San Diego County for battery, receiving stolen property, public intoxication, and other
offenses.
