Monterey Police Recover Stolen Electric Scooter and Arrest Two in Wooded Campsite
“On Friday, September 13, 2024, at 5:47 P.M., Monterey Police Officers responded to a report of a stolen electric scooter. The scooter had a GPS device attached to it and the reporting party believed it was located in a wooded area near Mark Thomas Drive and Josselyn Canyon Road.
Monterey Officers responded to the scene and located a campsite in the wooded area. Inside the campsite, Officers found the stolen scooter, a stolen electric bicycle, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia and a loaded .45 caliber handgun.
Faylon Cotton, 44, of Salinas, and Estela Romero Chacon, 37, of Salinas, CA, were contacted and arrested at the campsite.
Cotton was transported and booked into the Monterey County Jail for violations of the California Penal Code (PC) and violations of the Health and Safety Code (HS) to include,
496(a)PC – Possession of stolen property, 466 PC – Possession of burglary tools, 29800(a)(1) PC – Prohibited person in possession of a firearm, 30305(a)(1) PC – Prohibited person in possession of ammunition, 25850(c)(6) PC – Possession of a loaded firearm, 626.9(b) PC – Possession of a firearm within a school zone, 243(b) PC – Battery on a peace officer, 1203.2(a) PC – Probation violation, 11370.1(a) HS – Possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, 11377(a) HS – Possession of a controlled substance, and 11364(a) HS – Possession of paraphernalia. His bail was set at $92,500.
Romero Chacon was transported and booked into the Monterey County Jail for violations of the California Penal Code (PC) and violations of the Health and Safety Code (HS) to include, 29800(a)(1) PC – Prohibited person in possession of a firearm, 25850(c)(6) PC – Possession of a loaded firearm, 626.9(b) PC – Possession of a firearm within a school zone, 1203.2(a) PC – Probation violation, 11370.1(a) HS – Possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, 11377(a) HS – Possession of a controlled substance, and 11364(a) HS – Possession of paraphernalia.
Her bail was set at $60,000.
