Police in Orange have arrested a man in connection with a fatal DUI traffic collision.

According to a press release by the Orange Police Department, patrol officers and Orange City Fire responded on the night of Sunday, Sept. 29, to a multi-casualty incident at the intersection of Tustin Street and Collins Avenue.

A Chevy Equinox, driven by an intoxicated man, was reportedly traveling south on Tustin Street and collided with a Toyota RAV4 heading west on Collins Avenue.

The Chevy struck the side of the Toyota, killing a woman in the front passenger seat. Her daughter was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Another juvenile passenger and the male driver of the Toyota were also taken to local hospitals in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Chevy, identified as 18-year-old Roberto Noe Monfil Xitlama of Orange, sustained no serious injuries. Preliminary breath tests indicated his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

Xitlama was also driving without a license, police said.

Monfil Xitlama was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and booked at the Orange County jail.
