Porterville Police Seize Unregistered Firearm in Overnight Operation

Location: 1400 block East Putnam Avenue, Porterville
Suspect(s): Alexis Sanchez, 20-year-old Porterville resident , Victor Castillo, 21-year-old Porterville resident

On Friday, October 4, 2024, at 02:30 a.m., Officers with the Porterville Police Department responded to the 1400 block of East Putnam Avenue for several shots heard being fired. Officers located a vehicle occupied by Victor Castillo, the driver, and Alexis Sanchez, a passenger. Officers conducted their investigation and determined Castillo was in possession of a semi-automatic rifle. The passenger, Alexis Sanchez, was found to be on probation for robbery and had an active felony warrant for his arrest. He was detained and found to be in possession of an un-serialized handgun with several live rounds. A records check was conducted and Sanchez was found to be a prohibited person from possessing firearms and ammunition. Both Sanchez and Castillo were arrested, transported, and booked at the South County Detention Facility.

Sanchez is currently being held at the South County Detention Facility in lieu of a $170,000 bail.

Castillo is currently being held at the South County Detention Facility in lieu of a $45,000 bail.
