Santa Rosa Police Arrest Man on Weapons Charges After Reported Shooting

SANTA ROSA, CA — The Santa Rosa Police Department has reportedly arrested an individual in connection with a shooting near Olive and Earle streets.
According to a press release by the Santa Rosa Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunshots near Olive Street and Earle Street in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 5. A caller reported seeing a person enter a silver Toyota Tacoma and drive away from the area following the sound of gunfire.
Officers located a vehicle matching the description near Dutton Avenue and Sebastopol Road and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Jose Orozco-Abaraca, reportedly admitted to being in the area of the reported shooting and possessing a handgun in the vehicle.
Officers searched the vehicle and discovered a loaded 9mm pistol under a seat.
Police reportedly also discovered handgun casings on the 100 block of Earle Street while canvassing the area but found no further evidence of a shooting. Officers conducted welfare checks on nearby residents and confirmed there were no injuries reported.
Orozco-Abaraca was arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle, shooting at an inhabited vehicle or dwelling, and driving on a suspended license. He was booked into the Sonoma County jail.
The firearm was later discovered to have been stolen, and Orozco-Abaraca is expected to face additional charges for the possession of a stolen gun, police said.
