Humboldt County authorities recently took a man into custody for allegedly making criminal threats and disorderly conduct while under the influence.

According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance on Oct. 7 at approximately 6:30 a.m. on the 1100 block of Lloyd St. in the Pine Hill area.

An individual, later identified as Jeffrey Buckalew, 62, of Fortuna, was reported to have been yelling and banging on a resident’s door before leaving the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.

As deputies searched for Buckalew, they received a second report of someone yelling in a private pasture about half a mile from the location of the first incident. Suspecting that this was the same individual they were looking for, deputies proceeded to the area near the 500 block of Sea Ave. in Pine Hill.

Deputies arrived at the scene and located Buckalew hiding in the brush within the pasture.

Deputies reported that Buckalew reportedly responded to their commands by making threats, allegedly stating his intent to use a firearm against them.

Despite attempts to negotiate for over an hour, Buckalew did not comply and continued to make threats.

After approximately 90 minutes, Buckalew emerged from the brush with his hands up, and no weapon was visible. He then fled back into the brush, but deputies were able to apprehend him safely.

Buckalew was taken into custody on suspicion of disorderly conduct while under the influence and obstructing or resisting an executive officer.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities are seeking information from the public regarding this incident.
