SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA — “On Tuesday, Detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, as part of the DHE/REACT (Domestic Highway Enforcement/Regional Enforcement of All Crimes Team), were working in the area of Interstate-5 and Hood Franklin Road. A California Highway Patrol Officer assigned to REACT conducted a vehicle stop for traffic violations. A Sacramento Sheriff’s narcotics-trained K9, Maverick, also assigned to REACT, conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted them to the presence of narcotics. While K9 Maverick sniffed the vehicle, the male passenger, later identified as 34-year-old Edy Garcia, attempted to flee on foot but was detained almost immediately.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded 94.4 pounds of methamphetamine located in the trunk, in addition to 15 grams of cocaine and $2,077 in cash inside the vehicle.
Garcia and 28-year-old Quendi Fernandez-Molina were taken into custody on charges related to drug trafficking. Both Garcia and Fernandez-Molina are each being held on $1 million bail and are scheduled to appear in court on October 17.
REACT is a collaborative initiative including the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.”
