Ventura County, CA —
In September East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit learned
of a 74-year-old female victim who was targeted by pickpocket suspects while shopping
at a grocery store in Thousand Oaks.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Det. Kevin Walters,
“through a collaborative effort” with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department,
Thousand Oaks Detectives were able to identify the pickpocket suspects as 22-year-old
Inglewood, Ca. resident Cristian Rios Cuadros and 22-hear-old Hawthorne, Ca. resident
Johan Fonseca Garcia.
Cuadros and Garcia had been arrested by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies just
two days prior on Sept. 24 after they attempted to steal the phone of a 71-
year-old woman in Los Angeles County. This victim had also been shopping at a
grocery store when she was targeted by the suspects.
Within a week, detectives identified Cuardros and Garcia in the second attempted theft,
whereupon arrest warrants naming them were obtained. Contact with them was made
on October 1 at which point they were taken into custody and transported to Los
Angeles County Jail and charged with felony conspiracy to commit a crime, felony
burglary, and misdemeanor elder abuse. Cuadros and Garcia remain in the custody of
the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Cuatros and Garcia will be extradited to
the custody of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office “upon their release from jail in Los
Angeles County.”
