A Redding man was arrested for allegedly stabbing the person he was sharing a room with at a downtown motel.
According to a press release by the Redding Police Department, officers responded to the Deluxe Inn on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 16, to investigate a report of a stabbing.
Responding officers reportedly found both the suspect and the victim still on the scene. Police identified the suspect as 52-year-old Timothy Flanagin of Redding, whom they detained on the second-floor balcony of the motel.
The adult male victim was located in the motel parking lot, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his torso. Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for injuries that were determined not to be life-threatening.
Investigators determined that the stabbing occurred in a room shared by Flanagin and the victim. Officers recovered the knife used in the incident.
Flanagin had reportedly been staying at the inn, which serves as transitional housing, for approximately two weeks.
The motive for the stabbing remains under investigation, though it appears to have been unprovoked, police said.
Flanagin was booked into Shasta County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The case will be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of an attempted murder charge, police said.
