SAN LEANDRO— BART police apprehended two suspects sought in connection with a
deadly shooting at a skate park. Devin L. Stevenson, 30, and Ebony N. Cook, 31, both of
Oakland, were arrested on outstanding warrants.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office investigated the shooting and issued the warrants.
Deputies found the victim 23-year-old Darrion Johnson on June 15, suffering from a gunshot
wound. He died at the skate park adjacent to REACH Ashland Youth Center, 16313 E14th
Street in San Leandro.

On October 16 shortly before 7 p.m., BART police notified the sheriff’s office that both
suspects have been arrested. Stevenson remains in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita
Jail ineligible for release on bond, pending a plea hearing.
An argument between the suspect and victim reportedly escalated to violence. Stevenson is
charged with murder, and additional charges involving unlawful use of an unregistered firearm
to cause bodily harm.

Cook is charged with felony accessory after the fact. In prepared statement the Alameda
County District Attorney’s Office said Cook had knowledge of the deadly shooting and allegedly helped Stevenson with the intent that he might avoid arrest, conviction and
punishment for the murder.

If convicted of all charges, Stevenson faces 25 to years to life plus three years in state prison.
Incidentally, he has prior arrests for carrying a loaded firearm and domestic violence. If Cook
is convicted she faces three years in prison, according the statement released by the DA’s
office. She has prior arrests for assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence.
