Disgusting Odor Leads to Arrest of a Suspect for Double-Murder

By Jim Emerson

ANTIOCH, CA  —  Neighbors started complaining about the disgusting odor coming from nearby.
Police later responded to a call for a welfare check at home on Fairmont Lane. Inside, the
officers found two decomposing bodies. Mark Taylor, 46, was located inside the home as well, and was arrested
on suspicion of committing a double-murder.

The two victims are the suspect’s 65-year-old mother and his 39-year-old half-brother. In a
prepared statement Antioch police said. “Officers contacted a male suspect as he was
attempting to leave the home. The suspect was later discovered to be the son of the dead
woman and half-brother male victim.”

Detectives and crime scene investigators believe the victims’ bodies may have been inside
the house since sometime in August. Neighbors began complaining about the odor to the
property manager at the beginning of September.

Taylor was placed under arrest on October 16. He remains in custody at the Martinez
Detention Facility, while two counts for murder are pending against him.
Taylor had previous contact with law enforcement. Police reportedly responded to the same
home, following a recent altercation between the two brothers. Moreover, Taylor was arrested
for an incident involving battery in 2017.

The homicide investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Antioch
Police Department, Detective Adam Duffy, 925-779-6884 or email aduffy@antiochca.gov.
