CHICO, CA — Butte County deputies recently arrested two individuals after fentanyl and paraphernalia were discovered in their vehicle during a traffic stop for expired registration.
According to a press release by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle with expired registration near Connors Avenue on the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Cynthia Johnson, 58, and Thomas Morris, 40.
A Chico Police Department K9 unit was called to the scene and conducted an air sniff of the vehicle, reportedly alerting to the presence of narcotics.
Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered a “canister” in the engine compartment containing about 84 grams of suspected fentanyl and 13 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Deputies reportedly also found a scale with white residue and other unspecified paraphernalia.
Johnson and Morris were arrested on suspicion of the possession and transportation of controlled substances for sale, including methamphetamine.
During the booking process, deputies allegedly found a methamphetamine smoking device on Johnson, leading to an additional charge of possession of illegal paraphernalia in jail, the Sheriff’s Office said.
